How it works
What Blockhorn adds up, and how.
Everything on the plan sheet is arithmetic on the blocks you chose. Nothing is guessed, and your plan is never sent to anyone else.
Blocks
A practice is a list of blocks in order. Each block has a kind, an optional focus from your sport’s list, and minutes (1 to 60). The kinds:
- Warm-up: active time.
- Skill work: active time.
- Drill: active time.
- Small-sided game: active and game-like.
- Scrimmage: active and game-like.
- Conditioning: active time.
- Stations: 2 to 4 stations, 2 to 20 minutes at each; groups A–D rotate on the horn. Counts as active time.
- Water break: resets the water-break count; never shrunk by Fit-to-time.
- Coach talk: not active time and not a break: it neither adds to nor resets the water-break count.
- Cool-down: active time.
The checks
- Time. The plan’s end time against the time you have: over by how much, or how many minutes spare.
- Water breaks. The longest stretch of active minutes between water breaks, against your rule (every 10 to 30 minutes, or off). This is your own rule, not medical advice; follow your league’s and school’s heat and hydration rules.
- Talk. A note when coach talk is more than 15% of the practice.
- Shape. A note when practice does not start with a warm-up or end with a cool-down.
- Minutes by focus. Each focus’s minutes; at a station, each station’s minutes go to its own focus.
Fit-to-time
Fit-to-time rescales blocks so the total is exactly the minutes you ask for. Water breaks and stations keep their length. Every other block is scaled in proportion to its length, rounded to whole minutes (the blocks that lost the most to rounding get the spare minutes first), keeps at least 1 minute and at most 60, and stays in its place. On the live clock it rescales only the blocks still to come, so practice ends when the plan said it would.
The live clock
The clock runs in your browser. Press Start; the horn sounds at the end of each block (and each station round), with a short chirp one minute before. The screen stays awake where the browser allows it. If the screen sleeps or the tab is in the background, the clock still knows the time when you come back.
Plan links
A plan is stored in its own link, for example 1-sc-1730-60-20-w_5.s30125.b_2.g612.b_2.x_15.t_4.o_5. Anyone with the link sees the plan; it holds sports words and minutes only. A Practice Book is a separate private link; only its fingerprint is kept on the server.
